I had the pleasure of attending a 30th birthday meal and after-party for a very good childhood friend of mine.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to visit Gilgamesh you really should make it a priority as it really is beautiful. Glass, dark wood, fresh, bright, vibrant and classic are the things that spring to mind when thinking of this restaurant. It’s a hidden gem in Camden and if you didn’t know what type of restaurant it was you wouldn’t hard pressed to gather a very different impression of what to expect based on its location.
The food genre is pan-Asian. Well presented and perfect.
There are rarely good things to be said about set menu’s. There is usually always someone that comes away unsatisfied from their meal. Gilgamesh however didn’t fail on their offerings:
- (Starter) Sashimi Salad served with vermicelli noodles
- (Starter) Duck and Watermelon Salad (this was my personal favourite)
- (Starter) Prawn tempura
- (Main) Lamb Bulgogi served with Japanese chive mash
- (Dessert) White chocolate and yuzu mousse and strawberry lemongrass jelly
Having only visited this restaurant twice there is one feature I haven’t experienced which will keep me coming back in anticipation. The retractable ceiling, which I have heard opens on a very warm dry day. The fact that this restaurant is hoisted above the Stables Market in Camden, this is surely a feature that is waiting to be explored.
