Restaurant Review | Sargasso Sea Restaurant | Winchmore Hill, Enfield

16 Oct

It is with great sadness that I write this blog post as I received an email just two days ago informing me that Sargasso Sea, a specialised seafood restaurant in Winchmore Hill is closing its doors at the end of the year.

Chanelle of Parisienne, The House of Cupcakes introduced me to this restaurant just last month when we started our dinner club (which by the way we are still trying to come up with a name for – any suggestions? Let me know). It is one of her favourite restaurants. With our love for food in general and in particularly seafood, we just had to go.

The food was simply wonderful. The menu isn’t vast but with options such as lobster, oysters, prawns and mussels who can complain? I had Kilbrandon rock oysters to start.

For my main I had the “Hot Selection” which consisted of whole chick lobster, scallops, medium prawns,  and mussels, all sautéed in butter and parsley.

Chanelle had King scallops, seared with chorizo for her starter and chose Alaskan king crab legs, served: steamed with a spicy tomato salsa for her main.

The food was beautifully presented. The service wonderful. The location of the restaurant, perfect.  It is truly a shame that this restaurant will close. We plan to visit it before they shut their doors for the last time on New Years Eve 2010.

Hi Lian, Thanks very much for your comment. Sargasso Sea on the old site reopened as Bistro Ten (http://www.bistroten.co.uk) however as for the original restaurant – I haven’t heard anything as yet and my elaborate Google searches proved fruitless. I would love to find out what the future holds for the restaurant as I also heard that it would be re-opening. If you find out please let me know. I’m not a resident of Enfield/Winchmore Hill so not in the grapevine :)
